Coaching or "just chatting"?
What is the difference between coaching, a mental health session and you talking to your buddies in a bar?
Well, a lot...
The main points:
Coaching has a goal in mind and we are working towards that goal with tools and exercises. The professional will set the pace and hold you accountable for your progress.
Mental health professionals don't always agree with you like your best friends but ask reflecting questions to inquire about the "why and how" behind your story to get you to move see it from a different perspective. However, you set the pace and the direction of the session, so it feels like a comfortable talk with a very understanding, non-judgmental friend with excellent questions and reflections.
Chatting in the bar is the only one involving alcohol and repeating the same old stories without any reconciliation.

Her coaching style is rooted in Rogers' humanistic concepts where she pulls together whatever the client needs from her past and experience.
